History of kickboxing

Kickboxers sparring

Kickboxing is a relatively new discipline in the field of Martial Arts with a history of approximately 50 years. Born in the USA, kickboxing was originally influenced by the incredibly hard discipline of Thai-Boxing.

Many great ring fighters have carried the Kickboxing flag over the years, non more than the great Joe Lewis who is believed to be one of the greatest kickboxers that has ever lived.

The art of kickboxing is regulated for safety reasons but even with these rules, a fighter can still develop a good, kicking, punching, elbowing and kneeing skill.

Kickboxing bouts normally last a maximum of 5 rounds due to the extreme physical participation required to both punch and kick.

A great discipline for cardio-vascular fitness, endurance, power and speed.

RSDA kickboxing classes are mixed gender classes and are great fun.
