Frequently Asked Questions

This will depend on which style or styles you are training in. One of the major reasons many people train in our kick boxing classes is the physical exercise element of the training. Many who train in RSD are comfortable with the full contact aspect entailed. Our Wing Chun classes have a far less physical emphasis. Having said all of this we are conscious of the huge difference in the physical abilities of our students and so we tailor our classes in a way which will challenge you physically but not in a way which will push you too far too quickly.

All payments are made by direct debit.

The Realistic Self Defence Association encompasses a huge array of different styles. We really do have a style to suit anyone who wishes to study the martial arts. As a member of our Association you will have a choice of training in Wing Chun Kung Fu, Kickboxing, or Modern Combatives (a cross training system which incorporates aspects of many different martial arts, including Muay Thai, Wing Chun Kung Fu, Jui Jitsu, Close Quarter Combatives). The association curriculum is constantly evolving and we are able to offer specialist seminars on a monthly basis to suite all tastes and needs. For the younger martial artist we have Little Dragons, and Young Masters which cover many of the aspects of our adult RSD classes.

As you probably realise by now the RSDA has many different programmes on offer, and so obviously we have a number of different ways to pay for those programmes. Once you have experienced your first FREE class, and you are happy to proceed, you will be contacted by our Programme Director who specialises in ensuring you choose the right programme and way to pay for you. Suffice to say you can enrol to train on our most expensive programme for less than the cost of a cup of coffee and a sandwich per day.

This will again depend on the programme you choose. At one level you can train from beginner to black belt level in one style between three to five years, whilst in our Leadership Programme you can take you from beginner to instructor level in a number of styles between two to three years.

This largely depends on how often you train and how much committment you put into your training. In all of our programmes you will see positive results in weeks not months.

The single biggest reason students start training in Kick-Boxing is fitness, so in short the answer is NO. We will assess your current fitness levels and assist you in increasing your fitness levels as you train.

We have a very effective system for monitoring students and we use this system to make sure everyone is having innjury free FUN...

The answer if NO. Sparring is optional and students that wish to compete can but no one is pushed into competitions.

Good combat training does not have forms or kata's. It does not teach you to walk up and down the training hall performing a series of blocks and strikes. Modern Combat is about dealing with the issues that scare us head on. Modern Combat is about learning practical, effective and simple techniques to deal with every scenario which ultimately will increase your confidence and self esteem.

The best way to be able to protect your children and family is to be able to protect yourself. Our programmes are designed to enable you to have the skills to educate members of you family in personal safety.
